The past several years have marked a major turning point in worship music. In the "old days" (which wasn't too long ago) many worship CDs were collaborative efforts between multiple worship leaders and song writers from multiple churches. As of late, most of the CDs we see in worship seem to be solo CDs from the all-in-one worship leader/artist/songwriter. Not that there is anything wrong with worship artists solo CDs, but there is a richness that is found when several worship leader, musicians, and writers come together and contribute their best to one project. This richness is what makes "Your Name" such a find.
"Your Name" is a new project featuring worship leaders Leeland Mooring, Paul Baloche, Phil Wickham, Lincoln Brewster and many more. But "Your Name" is not a slapped together compilation CD. It is a concept album which focuses on 10 different names of God, each track focusing on one of those names. It's been a while since I have personally come across a CD of new material with such a singular focus. As I read the track names like "Almighty", "Life", "Healer" and "Rock" I knew that this CD was going to be an valuable resource. I immediately began thinking of applications for these songs in worship sets. The combined theme of the songs may be narrowly focused on some of God's names, but individually the songs provide a wide range of possibilities for themed worship sets and topical music. Integrity Music obviously realizes that they have a full blown resource with this CD because they have also released a CD-ROM songbook containing transposable sheet music, chord charts, lead sheets, lyric text files and song perspectives.
Musically, "Your Name" contains no real surprises. The listener can expect worship pop/rock with a creative edge. All of the worship artists involved in this CD have brought their best to this project making it a solid CD from end to end.
