Review

For a long time now, Christ for The Nations Institute has been building a rich legacy of modern worship. Between the long list of popular worship songs that have been birthed out of CFN and former CFN worship leaders like Klaus Kuehn and Kari Jobe, it's safe to say that a deep well of worship has been established in Dallas. Once again we draw from this well with CFN's new worship CD + DVD "Desperate Hour".

It's always exciting to hear what Christ For The Nations is going to do next as they have an amazing ability to evolve musically, creatively and thematically from year to year. Each annual release is a snap shot of what God is doing among the students at that particular time so it's hard to predict exactly how each CD is going to play out. Much in the same way that running water keeps a stream from becoming stagnant, I believe the flow of students though the Institutes music program keeps the music ministry fresh. This is CFN's strength.

In true CFN fashion the CD starts out high energy and eventually enters in to intense worship. I can't really say that they present anything that we haven't heard before in terms of music but it is still really fresh stuff. CFN's music continues to be inspired by that big church worship sound yet they are not obsessed with being a Hillsong or New Life copy cat. They just seem to make the music that flows out, whether it sounds old or new school. I think this is something to be admired.

I admit that I was a bit disappointed with Christ for The Nation's last release but I think they are really back on track with "Desperate Hour". It has great songs, worship leaders and high, tasteful production values. I can't wait to hear what they are going to do next.
