Spring Hill Music Group
Tom Lane

As a singer, songwriter and guitar player, Tom has been teamed with many worship leaders and artists, including Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin and David Ruis. He is the author of 'Pour Out Your Spirit Lord,' one of the more popular worship songs in recent years. He continues to record his own work, lead worship and write regularly for various worship publications worldwide and has appeared on several releases in the Spring Hill Worship series.

Tom's extensive travels in the U.S. and abroad and his years of writing songs of worship is evident on this debut release as he so adeptly proclaims the sovereignty and enormity of a profound God while always keeping in mind the humility of a loving Father who would make Himself man for us.

Featuring guest appearances from Tim Hughes, Phil Keaggy and Nicol Sponberg (Selah), LARGER THAN LIFE I KNOW, is an excellent addition to the acclaimed Spring Hill Worship line, bringing fresh new worship songs for corporate and personal times of worship.

Tom Lane
Set Free My Heart

This was my first encounter with Tom Lane. That's not due to his anonymity (his collaboration with Matt Redman and Tim Hughes certainly disqualifies him for anonymity), but due rather to my lack of exposure. But let me tell you, I am certainly glad to have made his acquaintance!

The first thing that struck me: what a great voice! A great voice is certainly a blessing, but that's not enough in itself to make for a great album. But add a great voice with quality song writing and you have a winner. And, ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner!

It was a joy to hear so many songs in which Jesus was the obvious center. It's crystal clear from his vocal passion that Tom believes his lyrics:
No one bigger, no one brighter
And no one equal to Your worth in all the earth
(King Jesus)

This album has a lot of musical variety. There's a nice mix of sweet acoustic and powerful electric. Set Free My Heart has kind of a New Orleans thing going. When Love was Crucified moves us toward the Country side of music. Throw in a little rock and roll and you've got an album that won't bore you with the same ol' same ol'. As to the order of the songs, there was this nice undulation from powerful to intimate that didn't make me feel like I was on a rollercoaster being jerked from one side to the other. You have to have the right songs and right personnel to bring that off. I really enjoyed the "prayer" songs. On Mighty Breath of God, Tom invites God's Spirit to come in power, and in Set Free My Heart he asks for the freedom that only comes from Jesus. Pray/sing on brother!

Lastly, this project has some great background vocals (if you were wondering what the BGV was on the credits, now you know). They have really done a nice job supporting the lead vocals on this project.

In the project's final cut, A New Song, Tom prays that God will "put a new song in my (his) heart". God has obviously already answered that prayer through this album. I have no doubts He will continue to answer that prayer for Tom.
